Our Story

They say that every woman needs a Little Black Dress – simple, classic, sophisticated. Never the wrong wardrobe choice, the Little Black Dress can be dressed up or down to fit any occasion. The design of the dress should be as simple a possible, as a LBD never goes out of style.

Well, no offense to the fashion world, but I have a better option for something every woman needs, that won’t go out of style… the ability and confidence to create amazing dishes in the kitchen! Enter, Little Black Apron – where we’ll teach you to cook and bake, giving you the tools necessary to look and feel like a chef, even if you’ve never successfully made anything but burnt cookies.

At Little Black Apron, we believe powdered sugar on your nose and flour in your hair are the signs of sophistication – no black dress needed!  Sitting down at the end of the day to a delicious and impressive meal that you made yourself, or serving the perfect pie, that you made, from scratch – now that’s a feeling of pride that no fashion patrol can ever call a crime. Little Black Apron exists to help you achieve it!

Little Black Apron, Inc. was created in August, 2016, out of the pure love and joy of cooking by Victoria Hoppe.  After panic attacks and stress left her hopelessly looking for answers, Victoria knew she had to make a big change in her life, and find a way to rid herself of anxiety and depression. On a leap of both faith and hope, she left her corporate job to take on a much smaller role, allowing her to focus on the things that brought her joy and tranquility, and to truly focus on mental health. One of those things was baking.

Baking since the age of 9, Victoria has always loved spending time in the kitchen, but with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and years of retail management experience, her background was anything but culinary. The foodie in her knew she had a real talent, but she thought cooking and baking would never be more than hobbies. Victoria began to use her creativity in the kitchen as a side project. A hobby of cake decoration for coworkers and neighbors soon morphed into taking custom orders for themed cakes.

With the dream of one day owning her own bakery, Victoria went on to study business, earning her MBA from the University of South Carolina in 2011 and now has the privilege of calling cooking and baking (plus photography, writing, and marketing) her full-time job.

When she isn’t playing chef, you’ll most likely find her reading (especially Harry Potter), dancing, sharing a glass(es) of wine with friends, playing board games, wedding planning, or spending time with her fiancé, James, and their 4 fur-babies.
